Point of Rocks sits right on the edge of Frederick County — close enough to feel connected to everything Frederick has to offer, but far enough that it still has that slower, quieter pace a lot of people moved out here for. Residents here tend to know what they want in their homes: spaces that actually work for how they live, not just rooms that look good in a catalog photo. That’s exactly the kind of project Zoltan Design Co was built for.
We’ve worked with homeowners all across Frederick County, and Point of Rocks clients have some of the most interesting projects we take on. Whether it’s an older farmhouse with great bones that needs a fresh take, a new build that feels cold and generic, or a main bedroom that just never comes together — these are the kinds of spaces we love working through. If you’ve been putting off calling an interior designer because you’re not sure it’s worth it, this page is for you.

A lot of people think hiring an interior designer means handing over control of their home to someone with strong opinions about accent walls. That’s not how we work. Most of our Point of Rocks clients come in with a rough idea of what they like — maybe a Pinterest board, maybe just a general feeling they want — and we help them turn that into something real and livable.
We start with a conversation, not a sales pitch. We want to know how you actually use your space. Do you host a lot? Do you have kids who treat the living room like a racetrack? Do you work from home and need a room that doesn’t make you feel like you’re trapped in a beige cube? That stuff matters more than whatever style is trending this year.
From there, we pull together a design direction, source pieces, and manage the whole process so you’re not chasing down contractors or trying to figure out why your sofa order is three months late. The goal is a space that looks like you — just a significantly better version.
We offer full-service interior design for residential clients in Point of Rocks and throughout Frederick County. That includes everything from space planning and furniture selection to color consultation, window treatments, lighting, and accessory styling. Here’s a bit more on how each of those usually plays out in real projects:
A skilled interior designer in Frederick will look at your floor plan and figure out the best possible arrangement for how you live. That means thinking about traffic flow, natural light, focal points, and the way people move through a space during a normal day.
For Buckeystown homes — which often have open floor plans or unique older layouts — getting the space planning right is half the battle. Once the layout works, everything else falls into place much more easily.
There are a few things we hear pretty consistently from clients who’ve worked with other designers before coming to us. One is that they felt like their own preferences got steamrolled. Another is that projects dragged on way longer than expected with no real communication about why. We’ve built our whole process around avoiding both of those things.
We’re a smaller studio, which means you’re working directly with Zoltan throughout your project — not getting handed off to a junior designer after the first meeting. We keep projects moving, keep you updated when things change, and we’re honest about timelines from the start. If something is backordered for sixteen weeks, we’d rather tell you upfront than have you asking about it in month four.
We also know this area well. Frederick County has a mix of older homes, new construction neighborhoods, and everything in between. The farmhouse outside of Point of Rocks needs a different approach than the townhome near downtown Frederick. We’ve worked in both, and we’re not trying to apply the same template to every project.
Zoltan Design Co is based in Frederick and serves clients throughout the region. If you’re in Point of Rocks or nearby, we’re already familiar with your part of the county.
If you’re not sure whether we serve your specific neighborhood, just reach out. We’re generally flexible about travel within Frederick County and nearby parts of Washington County and Montgomery County.
It really depends on the scope. We charge a flat design fee for most projects, which we establish at the start based on what’s involved. Some designers work on hourly rates, some take a percentage of purchases — we prefer a flat fee because it keeps things transparent and means we’re not incentivized to have you buy more expensive stuff.
No, but you do need a realistic one. Part of what we do is help clients prioritize — figure out where it makes sense to invest (usually things like sofas, rugs, and lighting, which you’ll have for a long time) and where you can save without it showing (accent pillows, decorative objects, some accessories). We can work with a range of budgets, but we’ll tell you honestly if what you’re hoping to accomplish isn’t realistic with what you want to spend.
Single-room projects typically run two to four months from first meeting to installation, assuming we’re not waiting on any particularly long lead-time items. Full-home projects are longer — six months to a year is common for a complete house. A lot of the timeline is outside our control (furniture production times, contractor schedules) but we plan around known lead times from the start so there aren’t surprises.
Single-room projects are absolutely fine. A lot of our clients start with one room — usually the living room or main bedroom — and come back for others after seeing how it turned out. We don’t require you to commit to anything beyond what you actually want help with.
