Woodspring is one of those Frederick neighborhoods that got a lot of things right. Good lot sizes, established trees, homes with actual character — it doesn’t feel cookie-cutter the way some newer subdivisions do. But a lot of the homes here were built in an era when interior design trends were… let’s call them specific. Brass fixtures, builder-grade carpeting, dining rooms nobody actually eats in. We’ve helped a lot of Woodspring homeowners figure out how to update their spaces without losing what makes the neighborhood feel like home.
Zoltan Design Co is an interior designer based in Frederick, MD. We work with homeowners in Woodspring and throughout the area who want their homes to actually reflect how they live — not just look good for a few months before everything feels off again. This page covers what we do, how we work, and what Woodspring clients typically ask us before getting started.

Most of the clients we meet in Woodspring have been in their homes for a while. They’ve made small changes over the years — painted a wall here, switched out some light fixtures there — but the house still doesn’t feel quite right. It’s that situation where nothing is technically wrong, but nothing is really working together either.
Other times people have just hit a life change. Kids finally moved out and now there’s a whole floor that doesn’t need to be a playroom anymore. Someone’s been working from home for a few years and they need a real office, not a desk shoved in the corner of the guest room. A couple bought the house together but one person’s furniture and one person’s furniture never really became their furniture.
These are all normal situations and they’re all things we can help with. We don’t need you to hand us a blank check or tear everything out. We just need a clear conversation about what’s bothering you and what you actually want.
We offer full residential interior design services in Woodspring and Frederick County. We take a room — or a whole house — from where it is now to where you want it to be. That means space planning, furniture selection, finishes, lighting, window treatments, accessories — everything pulled together so it looks intentional instead of accumulated. We handle all the sourcing and project coordination so you’re not managing vendors on your own.
A lot of homes in Woodspring have generous floor plans, but the furniture arrangements that came with the owners don’t take advantage of them. We do detailed floor plans before anything gets moved or ordered, so you can see exactly how the room will function — not just how it’ll look in a rendering.
We start with a consultation — usually about an hour in your home. No pressure, no presentation, just a real conversation about what’s working, what isn’t, and what you’re hoping to end up with. If we think we’re a good fit, we’ll put together a clear proposal with a flat design fee so you know exactly what you’re committing to.
From there, we develop a design direction for your approval before anything gets ordered. You see the plan, give feedback, and we refine it until it’s right. Then we move into sourcing and execution. We keep you updated throughout so you’re not wondering what’s happening with your project for weeks at a time.
We’re a small studio, which means Zoltan is on your project from start to finish. You’re not getting handed off after the first meeting to someone you’ve never met.
We’re based in Frederick and serve clients throughout the city and surrounding county. If you’re in a part of Frederick County not on this list, reach out anyway. We’re flexible about travel within the county and nearby areas.
Yes, and honestly most of our projects start that way. A single room done right — usually a living room or main bedroom — tends to make people realize how much the rest of the house could benefit from the same attention. But we never push you to expand scope. You tell us what you want help with and that’s what we focus on.
Definitely. Most clients aren’t starting from scratch. Part of the design process is figuring out what stays, what goes, and what the gaps are. Some pieces are worth keeping and incorporating. Others are the reason the room isn’t working. We’re honest about the difference.
For a single room, plan on two to four months from first consultation to installation day. Whole-home projects run longer — typically six months to a year. A big part of the timeline is furniture lead times, which can run eight to sixteen weeks for custom pieces. We plan around those timelines from the start so nothing is a surprise.
Not really. The heaviest involvement is at the beginning — the initial consultation and design approval stage. After that, we handle the day-to-day management and check in with you when decisions need to be made or when something changes. We know most of our clients have jobs and lives. We work around that.
