Green Valley sits in the Frederick County countryside in a part of Maryland that still looks the way a lot of people imagine rural Maryland should look — open land, rolling terrain, homes that have some breathing room around them. It draws people who want space and quiet without completely leaving the region behind. Frederick is close, the commuter routes are manageable, and the tradeoff for the drive is a property that wouldn’t exist at that price point anywhere closer to the city.
Zoltan Design Co is a Frederick-based interior designer serving Green Valley and communities throughout Frederick County. We work with homeowners who have put real thought into where they live and want their interiors to reflect that same care. If your rooms have been on the back burner for a while, this is what working with us looks like.

Homes in Green Valley and the surrounding Frederick County countryside tend to have more square footage than you’d find at the same price point closer to the city — and that extra space creates its own set of design challenges.
Large rooms are actually harder to furnish well than small ones. Pieces that work in a normal-sized living room can look lost in a room with fifteen feet between the sofa and the far wall. A lot of Green Valley clients have rooms that feel like they’re missing something without being able to identify exactly what.
There’s also the newer-construction situation. A lot of homes in this area were built in the last two decades with builder-grade finishes that made perfect sense at the time and feel dated now. The bones are good, the layout usually works, but the interior finishes and furnishings haven’t kept pace with how the homeowners have grown into the property.
And sometimes the problem is simpler than all that — somebody just moved in, brought all their old furniture from a smaller place, arranged it the best they could, and five years later the rooms still feel like they belong to someone else.
We provide full residential interior design throughout Green Valley and Frederick County. Here’s what each service typically involves:
For larger homes, space planning is where the most important work happens. We produce detailed floor plans before anything is moved or purchased — working out furniture scale, circulation paths, sight lines, and how rooms connect to each other. In homes with open floor plans or great rooms, getting the zones right on paper first is what prevents that pulled-apart, nothing-cohesive feeling.
Color behaves differently in homes with more natural light and longer sightlines between rooms. What looks like a safe neutral in a smaller space can feel cold or overwhelming when it covers the walls of a large open room with windows on three sides. We test samples in your actual space under real conditions and build a palette that holds up across rooms and throughout the day as the light moves.
Getting furniture scale right in a larger home takes more than a tape measure. We work through trade accounts that give us access to pieces most homeowners never find at retail, and we check every item against your floor plan before it’s ordered. A sofa that’s the right depth and profile for a ten-foot room looks completely different against the wall of a sixteen-foot one — we catch those mismatches before delivery day. Ordering, tracking, and any delivery issues are all handled on our end.
Green Valley is an easy drive from Frederick — we come to you for consultations and site visits, so the distance isn’t a factor in how the project runs. Being based in Frederick also means we have real working relationships with the vendors, workrooms, and tradespeople who serve Frederick County. When something needs to be installed or scheduled, we’re calling people who actually show up.
We keep the studio small on purpose. Zoltan runs every project from first conversation to final installation. No junior designers, no account managers between you and the person making the decisions. The attention you get at the consultation is what you get for the whole project.
We also don’t have a look we’re trying to replicate on every job. Green Valley properties aren’t all the same and neither are the people who live in them. The design comes from your house, your life in it, and what you want it to feel like — not from what worked on someone else’s project.
We serve clients throughout Frederick County and the surrounding region.
Start with the rooms you spend the most time in — usually the main living area. Getting one room really right gives you a reference point for everything else and tends to make the rest of the house feel more manageable. We can plan the whole home at once for cohesion while executing one room at a time.
Open floor plans have real advantages and real challenges. The main challenge is creating definition — making each zone feel purposeful without putting up walls. Rugs, lighting, furniture arrangement, and color all do that work. Space planning is especially important here because the decisions in one zone affect how everything around it reads.
Single rooms run two to four months from consultation to installation. Multi-room and whole-home projects typically take six months to a year. Custom furniture lead times — usually eight to sixteen weeks — are built into the schedule from day one so there are no surprises mid-project.
